Los Angeles Fashion Week (LAFW) takes place every March and October in various locations throughout the Los Angeles area.
LAFW provides fashion enthusiasts the opportunity to join forces and collectively share their passion for fashion. This year, LAFW took place March 9th-13th. Many established and well-known designers took LAFW by storm with their new Fall/Spring collections. However, this year, I was most excited about seeing the collections of up-and-coming designers, such as Michael Costello, Walter Mendez and Nancy Vuu.
Michael Costello is an American couture fashion designer. He is the first ever American rom (gypsy) designer. He was featured on season eight of project runway, and he finished in 4th place. He was also on project runway’s all-star season and he received first place. Michael Costello has been showcased at both LA and Mercedez Benz Fashion Week. Furthermore, Michael Costello’s designs have been seen all over the red carpet. Most recently, Beyonce wore one of his gowns at the Grammys, as shown below.
Michael Costello is primarily known for his glamorous gowns, but his other wardrobe pieces such as, his blazers and skirts are equally as extravagant. The main colors of his fall collection are silvers, golds, neutrals and whites. Most of the pieces in the fall collection are light and airy.

Walter Mendez is a young designer whose pieces are generally found on television and red carpets. Walter has been featured on publications such as Women Wear Daily, and Apparel News. His designs have been showcased at LAFW for the past couple of years. Moreover, Walter was awarded the “Designer of the Year Award” by the World Networks. He has also been one of the featured designers of the Go Red Fashion Show (The American Heart Association Charity Event).
Walter Mendez’s fall collection consists of exquisite cocktail dresses and sleek gowns. Most of the dresses are elegant and chic yet exude sexiness. The dresses have plunged necklines, bare shoulders and are made of sheer fabrics. The color palette of Mendez’s spring collection consists of reds, blacks, blues, golds and nudes.
Walter Mendez’s Fall 2014 Collection:
Nancy Vuu, is one of my all-time favorite designers when it comes to childrens-wear. She creates vintage-inspired clothing for kids. There isn’t any public bibliographical information on Nancy Vuu. However, photos of her spring 2015 designs are all over the internet. Her spring collection primarily consists of colors, such as golds, fuchsias, and pinks. Most of the designs from the collection have lace and floral detailing.
